The International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism officially launched the first refresher training session for French-speaking tour guides, which took place in Siem Reap from July 21 to 23, 2025. This training program, designed for approximately one hundred French-speaking tour guides across three three-day sessions, aims to strengthen their skills and proficiency in French in order to improve the quality of their services, particularly in preparation for the 2026 Francophonie Summit in Siem Reap. This initiative responds both to the Ministry of Tourism's objectives of raising service standards and to the OIF's commitment to sustainable tourism and employability, especially for young people and women. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Chuob Ratana, on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, commended the OIF's financial support for sustainable tourism projects since 2024. H.E. Mr. Ngov Sengkak, Vice-Governor of Siem Reap, emphasized the importance of this training for his province, where French tourists constitute the third largest group of visitors. On behalf of the OIF, Mr. Kaloyan Kolev, Acting Representative for Asia-Pacific, encouraged the guides to fully commit themselves to promoting Cambodia as a competitive and welcoming French-speaking destination.
